Re: Classic TV/Made for TV movies
Meantime is very good, Gary Oldman at his best.

Well worth a watch, Mike Leigh made some great stuff, Bleak Moments is good as well, his first film and for the BBC as well.

Remember an old film from the 70s called Bloody Kids... Gary Holman IIRC... all set around Southend and Canvey... proper bleak stuff

Thanks - haven't seen this one.
My favourite is Life is Sweet.
Mike Leigh always puts together a brilliant cast.

I bought that film on dvd at a car boot sale a good few years back together with Made in Britain.
Both excellent.

Reading back through this, just remember the classic "Abigail's Party".

If ever you want to re-live an era, and what it was really like, I'd recommend this little slice of the move from working class to middle class and the uncomfortable social scene of the time.

Taking this opportunity to say this thread has inspired me to do another TV Cops Quiz tomorrow and some other classic TV quizzes over the next few days.

Tomkinson's School Days was the best

"'New boarder Tomkinson is thoroughly miserable at Graybridge public school where he has to fight the grizzly
bear, get nailed to the wall on St Tadger's Day "

Ian Ogilvy (The Saint) as the school bully.

Ripping Yarns episode Golden Gordon where Palin comes home after watching yet another heavy defeat for his team and smashes all the furniture.
Boys From The Blackstuff and the Shakehands episode.
Kes and the football match
Nuts In May play for today
Blue Remembered Hills where all the children are played by adult actors.
All gold standard.

Bergerac would have been a very short series if he had nicked his father in law, Charlie Hungerford and his mates in episode 1. I still watched it every week though.
